Eric Moo 40th Anniversary Concert — Singapore
Born in Kampar, Perak, Malaysia, Eric Moo finished secondary school and junior college in Singapore and started out in the campus xinyao movement of the 1980s. Forty years into his career, he returns to Singapore on Sunday 3 January 2027 at 8pm for Our Journey Through 40 Years at Resorts World Convention Centre, Sentosa. The promoter calls it a reunion with old friends: from the xinyao song Encounter, through the drama themes of SBC’s golden era such as Emotional Liaison Station, Chinatown Folks and Friendship in the Heart, to love ballads like A Dream of Worldly Love and Waiting Until My Heart Aches. Tickets are SGD 88–218 plus an SGD 6 booking fee each.
In 1980s Singapore, students wrote and sang their own songs, a movement called xinyao, and Eric Moo started out in it.
He formed a band, Subway, with Jurong Junior College classmates; in 1983 his Encounter reached No. 4 on Singapore’s Lung Fu chart, and his first solo album, Mood, followed in 1985.
Many theme songs of SBC’s golden-era dramas came from him: Emotional Liaison Station, Chinatown Folks, Friendship in the Heart.
The promoter calls them a shared soundtrack for a generation of Singaporeans; on this night he comes back to where it started and sings them for old friends.
He then moved to Taiwan, where A Dream of Worldly Love and Waiting Until My Heart Aches carried him across the Chinese-speaking world; Too Foolish in 1994 took him to his peak.
In 1996 he became the first Malaysian singer to headline the Hong Kong Coliseum, and in 1997 he won Best Male Vocalist at Taiwan’s Golden Melody Awards; that broad, powerful voice is his signature.
