Sculpture on the Gulf 2027
Founded in 2003 and presented by Waiheke Art Gallery, Sculpture on the Gulf sets contemporary sculpture along a 2.5 km coastal walkway at Matiatia Bay every two years. It returns from 26 February to 29 March 2027 with 30 projects. Co-curators Heather Galbraith and Benjamin Work chose the theme The Ocean Remembers the Shore, inspired by the island’s long history of sheltering people seeking safety and connection, reflected in its original name, Te Motu Ārai Roa, the long sheltering island. Waiheke is a 40-minute ferry ride from Auckland. Tickets are not on sale yet; the site asks visitors to sign up to its newsletter for ticket news.
