Four thousand years of Egypt, in Seoul.

Unraveling the Mysteries of Ancient Egypt: The Collection of Brooklyn Museum — Seoul

The organisers rank the ancient Egyptian collection of New York’s Brooklyn Museum alongside those of the British Museum, the Louvre and the Metropolitan Museum. About 150 originals now come to the Seoul Calligraphy Art Museum at the Seoul Arts Center: human and animal mummies, coffins, canopic jars, amulets and grave goods tell of Egyptian beliefs about the afterlife, alongside a royal head and the everyday lives of ordinary people, from family and work to food, games, pottery, cosmetics and jewellery. The Book of the Dead is shown in high-definition immersive media, visitors can hear reconstructed ancient Egyptian (which the organisers call a first in Korea), and an animation explains how mummies were made. The exhibition runs from 11 December 2026 to 11 April 2027.
