Lights from the station to Odori Park on a snowy night.

Sapporo White Illumination 2026–27

Begun in 1981, the Sapporo White Illumination is Japan’s first illumination, and its 2026–27 season lights six sites in central Sapporo: light sculptures across Odori Park; a corridor of about 220,000 LEDs along the 1.5 km of Ekimae-dori from Sapporo Station to Susukino; 46 glowing street trees on Minami 1-jo; music and lights at the station’s south plaza; and aurora-like shifting colours in front of the red-brick former Hokkaido Government Office at Akapla. The first two blocks of Odori Park also host the Munich Christmas Market, with mulled wine, Christmas food and decorations. The sites close on different dates, and viewing is free.
