What a Wonderful World: Masterworks from the Musée d’Orsay — Tokyo
For the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum’s 100th anniversary and the Musée d’Orsay’s 40th, the two museums stage this Orsay collection show at Tobikan from 14 November 2026 to 28 March 2027; it will not tour elsewhere. About 110 paintings, sculptures, decorative arts and photographs are arranged in seven chapters. Millet’s The Gleaners (1857) returns to Japan for the first time in 23 years, and Van Gogh’s Starry Night over the Rhône (1888) and Gauguin’s Arearea for the first time in 16. No timed booking is needed; adult tickets are JPY 2,400 (2,200 in advance), free for those 18 and under.

Five chapters follow on nature, work, daily life, Paris nights and family, with Monet’s Rue Montorgueil festival, Seurat’s study for The Circus and Bonnard interiors. All of the roughly 110 paintings, sculptures, decorative pieces and photographs come from the Orsay, the “temple of Impressionism”; the scenography is by Cécile Degos.
