Halloween Horror Nights 14 Singapore
The 14th Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Singapore runs on 18 nights only, from 7.30pm to 12.30am. Two of its four haunted houses tell local stories, a Karang Guni rag-and-bone man and a haunted TV studio; the other two are a ventriloquist’s horror vaudeville and a robot factory chasing eternal life. Between them are two open-air scare zones where anyone might jump out at you, and three live shows.
In Karang Guni: The Cursed Collection, every old object the rag-and-bone man has gathered carries a curse; Singapore’s Most Haunted: ON AIR is an abandoned broadcast studio where old tapes replay local legends.
Karang Guni is what Singaporeans call the rag-and-bone men who collect old goods, and this house is the centre of this year’s story. The studio is creepier still: the footage slowly turns into you, walking past.
Chatterbox Charlie’s Vaudeville Horrors is a variety show by the ventriloquist Charlie and his dummy Junior, where it gets harder to tell what is real; Made in Hell: XL Robotics is a bioengineering plant chasing eternal life, where machines, rebels and test subjects collide.
One is a stage where nothing is quite real, the other a factory of machines and test subjects; each of the four houses frightens in its own way.
The scare zones are open-air streets: The Raveyard is a neon cemetery where the dead party, and Necropolis is an Ancient Egyptian underworld.
Of the three shows, The Scaremony opens the night and sets its theme; Club PanDEMONium mixes speciality acts, dark humour and loud music; Nail the Beat stars two monster characters, HamiKuma and Ponti-Ana, in a riot of horror and music. Between the houses, the shows are where screams turn to laughter and applause.
