Boston Marathon 2027
The 2027 Boston Marathon is the 131st, on Patriots’ Day, Monday 19 April. The course runs from Hopkinton into downtown Boston, and most of its 30,000 runners must first run a qualifying time: this year you had to beat your group’s standard by 5 minutes 17 seconds to get in. Watching from the roadside is free, and the Newton hills and the cheering at Wellesley are the highlights.
Around halfway, students of Wellesley College line the road and shout, the famous “scream tunnel”.
Runners feel the crowd here as nowhere else, and friends waiting here have the best chance of seeing their runner pass.
The Newton hills in the second half include the famous Heartbreak Hill, where you see who saved their strength earlier.
Stand on the hill and watch runners grind their way up, then find their rhythm again on the way to the finish on Boylston Street.

Runner places are allocated (qualifiers, the random selection and charity places); to run, wait for the next edition.
The course is point to point, 42 km from start to finish, so friends should not plan to chase by car.
