Founded in 1990 by his father Masaaki Suzuki, the ensemble recorded all of Bach’s sacred cantatas and is among the world’s leading period groups. It plays on instruments and with techniques close to those Handel knew, lighter and clearer than a modern orchestra.

A hall tuned for sound

The Esplanade Concert Hall has reverberation chambers and an adjustable acoustic canopy to suit each performance; Esplanade says only five halls in the world have similar features.

It seats 1,628, plus 197 in the Gallery behind the stage. Period instruments are quieter than modern ones, so a hall like this helps the detail come through. The soloists are soprano Miku Yasukawa, mezzo-soprano Roxana Constantinescu, tenor Seil Kim and bass-baritone Yasushi Hirano.
