The dance drama Thousand-Hand Guanyin plays three performances at the Esplanade Theatre on 26 and 27 December, presented by the Singapore Buddhist Free Clinic. The ticket page says director Zhang Jigang drew on his home province of Shanxi: the Thousand-Hand Guanyin statues at Jinge Temple on Mount Wutai and Chongshan Temple in Taiyuan shaped the look and mood, and the work took seven years to make. A plague sweeps the State of Dai and the king falls ill; the Third Princess sets out to find a sacred lotus, follows a red dragonfly through many trials, and finally turns the lotus, full of life, into a gentle rain over the land. The listed running time is about 105 minutes with a 15-minute interval.
