This is not a history play. Henry VIII’s six wives form a band and compete over whose story was worst; the winner sings lead. Each queen gets a solo in her own style, backed by an all-female band. It runs about 80 minutes with no interval; it won the 2022 Tony Awards for Best Original Score and Best Costume Design.
Each queen sings a solo: Catherine of Aragon fights back in No Way, and Jane Seymour holds firm in the ballad Heart of Stone.
Anne Boleyn’s Don’t Lose Ur Head is cheeky and defiant; Anna of Cleves shows off her palace and freedom after the divorce in Get Down; Katherine Howard’s All You Wanna Do starts bright and turns cold as she sings about being used. The same band finds a new sound for each queen.
With I Don’t Need Your Love, Catherine Parr stops to ask why they can only be remembered as Henry’s wives.
The contest over who suffered most is the show’s rule; this song throws it out, and the finale, Six, lets all six rewrite their own endings.
The stage is a band: an all-female group plays live, the queens sing into microphones, and the whole thing runs 80 minutes straight.
No scene changes, no long dialogue: it is tight and catchy, like hearing a live album, and the tunes are still going round your head on the way out.

Putting 500 year old events into pop references was cleverly done.
About 80 minutes with no interval; if you want long-form plot, scene changes and big ensembles, it may feel too compact.
