Macbeth at the New National Theatre Tokyo (new production)
Macbeth was Verdi’s first Shakespeare opera and a milestone in which the young composer broke with convention for opera as drama, following the Macbeths from prophecy through ambition, suspicion and conspiracy to madness. The New National Theatre stages a new production in 2027, directed by Lorenzo Mariani with Carlo Rizzi conducting the Tokyo Philharmonic, Ernesto Petti as Macbeth and Karen Gardeazabal as Lady Macbeth. Six performances run from 30 June to 18 July; general sale opens on 4 April 2027.
